A Marriage Stressed by Obsessions and Compulsions

by Nicole Comforto

When we first became parents, Mike’s messy, super-creative brain went into overdrive, and he began having intense episodes of anxiety over our family’s safety. For several years it became more intense and frequent; he worried about things like using our wood stove and eating blueberries. Eventually, he was diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). In 2021, Nicole wrote an essay about the experience, which became a Modern Love story.

Since then, we have heard from readers around the world who are dealing with similar issues. If you want more resources about OCD and other anxiety disorders, please see below. We are not experts, but we are forever grateful to the experts who helped us navigate this complex disorder.
